The new White Oak Portable Tap Floor boasts the same shock absorbing qualities of its predecessor but it now also includes an additional top layer made of gorgeous white oak.
Why a White Oak Floor?
White oak is one of the most resilient (and water resistant) varieties of wood in existence – even more so than the very popular red oak. This floor is intended to be the last floor you’ll ever purchase as it’s designed to withstand years and years of the heaviest use!
Which Tap Floor Should I Purchase?
That’s the question I have been asked the most since I made the floor available. To decide, ask yourself these questions:
1. What can I afford to invest?
If funds are tight, go with the original “Portable Tap Floor” with no upgrade. It will achieve your main goal of creating a space where you can enjoy your tap dancing. Just apply a layer of “Tung Oil” to give it maximum protection and durability and start dancing!
However, if you can afford to make the investment, go with the “White Oak Upgrade” – no question. Because of the superior quality of the wood, it will outlast anything else on the market and its very reasonable priced.
2. How often will I use the floor?
If you will only be practicing a few times a month & funds are limited, go with the original floor. It has served hundreds of tap dancers well to date and will do the same for you!
3. How often will I be moving the floor around?
The white oak floor is not as easy to move around and transport as the original “Portable Tap Floor.” Weighing nearly twice as much, it is best used in settings where it can provide a stationary practice area. On the other hand, because of the added richness of sound it provides, I have found myself choosing to carry the white oak floor anyway! It’s just more awkward.
My recommendation: If you can, get the white oak floor and ask a friend to help you move it when necessary! That way they can come enjoy your dancing and maybe even add a step or two of their own.
4. How soon do I need my floor?
Because of the labor involved and the materials, the White Oak Portable Tap Floor takes about a week to build. If you need the floor for a gift or are ready to start tapping at home ASAP, go with our original tap floor. It always arrives within 7 business days as opposed to up to 14 for the upgraded floor.
